Sea Dwellers in Still Life

"I should have been a pair of ragged claws. Scuttling across the floors of silent seas" - T. S. Eliot

Ragged Claws is an ongoing selection of oil painting work by Henry Verrall, a Brighton-based artist.

The paintings attempt to evoke the colours, imperfect textures, and character of the various sea creatures they depict.

Inspired originally by Van Gogh's Two Crabs  (1889), these oil paintings explore the complexity of their subjects, the balance between organic and inorganic materials, and the fascinating line between food object and living creature.
